Wondering how Pericles would have used the Spachteria event to accomplish long lasting peace, seems like it could be quite possible.
I forget the quote, but I’m pretty sure the spartan fleet was only just about to leave when they heard the rebellion had been diminished. Any help?
Awesome Fact: Greek Coffee & Souvlaki's originate from the Turks, simply renamed by the Greeks from originally being Turkish coffee and Kebab.
Studies show that Modern Greeks are made up of Mongol/Ottoman & Gypsy DNA. Due to the mass migration in that area of the time and mixture of races, they then called themselves Greeks names by Great Britain & France.
Athens would have been wise to have expended more of her resources towards operations similar to the one that came into being at Pylos instead of launching 50,000 men and hundreds of ships on that foolhearty expedition to sack Syracus. I always wondered why Athens did not try and stirr things up with the hapless Messinians that the Spartans spent half their time making sure was kept in the bonds of slavery. There are so many endless possibilities that Athens could have done with those 50,000 irriplacable men to effect the end of Sparta's power for good. Alas the cookie didn't crumble that way for them.
what kind of plague hit athens back then?
