George Katheklakis leads Canberra Cretan Association – The Greek Herald

The Cretan Association of Canberra and Districts has announced its new committee for 2026–2027, with George A. Katheklakis serving as president and a renewed focus on youth participation and preserving Cretan heritage.

The committee follows the association’s Annual General Meeting, held on September 26 at the Hellenic Club of Canberra.

Joining Katheklakis are Vice President Manoli Harkiolakis, Treasurer Debbie Xenikakis, Secretary and Youth Liaison Zac Look, Social Secretary Debbie Morogiannis and Publishing Officer Angela Mavrakis.

Particular emphasis has been placed on encouraging younger generations to become actively involved in the association and ensuring Cretan traditions continue to thrive in Australia’s capital.

Look, who joined the committee as Youth Liaison in May, will play an important role in strengthening connections with younger members.

The association also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing committee member Katina Pringle, thanking her for her dedication and ongoing support of its activities.

Looking ahead, the new committee aims to promote Crete’s history, culture and traditions through community events and initiatives that bring together different generations.

Members, families and supporters are encouraged to remain involved as the association continues its work strengthening Canberra’s Cretan community and passing its cultural heritage to future generations.
