According to the National Public Health Organization (EODY), since the beginning of the 2026 period, until August 12, a total of one hundred and ten (110) domestic cases of West Nile virus infection have been diagnosed and reported in Greece, of which eighty-one (81) cases presented Central Nervous System manifestations (CNS, encephalitis and/or meningitis and/or acute flaccid paralysis) and twenty-nine (29) cases had mild manifestations/no CNS manifestations.
During the last week, 45 new domestic cases were diagnosed/reported.
In total, during the period 2026, until August 12, nine (9) deaths have been recorded in patients with virus infection and CNS manifestations, aged over 65 years (median age of deceased: 82 years, range: 66 – 91 years).
