On July 20th and 21st, amid a heat wave, the annual distribution of food, clothing, and footwear took place at the facilities of Hellenic Volunteer Support (ΕΛΕΘΣΥ), the representative in Greece of the Hellenic Relief Foundation (HRF).
Day One: An Honored Guest from Canada
The first day was dedicated to the contribution of Mr. Anastasios Moussas, President of AHEPA Canada, who attended the distribution together with his wife and expressed his admiration for the work carried out by the Hellenic Relief Foundation and their partner organization in Greece, in cooperation with the Social Committee of the Athenian Society. Also present at the distribution was ΕΛΕΘΣΥ’s honorary president, Ms. Saki Kyprea. Mr. Moussas announced that he will continue his support through the end of the year and increase it in the new year. We extend our sincere gratitude to him for his generosity and compassion.
The following AHEPA chapters took part in organizing the effort, contributing a total of 14 bundles of clothing for distribution:
- HJ-02 “Glyfada” (Glyfada)
- HJ-04 “Solon” (Halandri)
- HJ-09 “Themistocles” (Piraeus)
- HJ-17 “Hephaestus” (Vari, Voula, Vouliagmeni)
- HJ-38 “Phalereus” (P. Faliro)
- HJ-55 “Thucydides” (Alimos)
The chapters were represented by Sotirios Loïs (President) and Makarios Efpraxiadis (Vice President) for Piraeus; Aristeidis Grivas (President) for Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni; and Georgios Sarafoglou (former President) for Alimos.
Day Two: Hellenic Relief Foundation Food Distribution
The second day was dedicated to the Hellenic Relief Foundation’s food distribution, with packages containing pasta, rice, flour, orzo, olive oil, milk, cut chicken, and other staples, given to financially disadvantaged families and elderly individuals living alone who receive the organization’s support. The packages were supplemented with Barba Stathis vegetables (green beans, peas, spinach), ARISTON butter, and other products.
In total, 244 food packages were distributed over the two days, of which 14 were delivered to the Holy Church of Saint Catherine of Petralona.
The distribution was carried out under the direction of Ms. Maria Siourdi, director of ΕΛΕΘΣΥ, with the participation of volunteers Emi Spanou, Yiannis Lambrou, and Fotis Panagiotakopoulos.
