Map showing IDOT work zones in Des Plaines starting July 6, 2026.
Traffic tie-ups are expected for the next few months in the heart of Des Plaines as IDOT begins resurfacing Lee Street, Graceland Avenue and Mannheim Road next week.
Workers will be split into two project areas. Starting from Elk Boulevard, the first includes Lee Street to Jefferson Street, the one block stretch of Jefferson to Graceland, both one-way portions of Graceland and Lee to the split at Walnut Avenue, continuing south around the curve where Mannheim splits off from Lee, ending at Prospect Avenue.
The second work zone then starts on Mannheim at Prospect and goes south past Allstate Arena to the I-90 bridge.
In addition to resurfacing roadways, work will include “restriping lanes and crosswalks, upgrading sidewalk and curb accessibility to meet ADA standards, and improving pedestrian signals for enhanced safety and usability,” the city said in a press release.
Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin Monday (July 6), requiring intermittent daytime lane closures after that. IDOT says work is anticipated for completion in November and that access to homes and businesses along the roadways will be maintained throughout construction.
