Year 3 Ancient Greek Day A Fun-Filled Journey Back in Time

The children in Year 3 enjoyed an exciting and memorable Ancient Greek Day, packed with creative activities, sporting challenges and a wonderful surprise feast.

The day began with our very own Ancient Greek Olympics. The swimming pool area was transformed into an Olympic arena, where the children competed enthusiastically in a range of events including javelin, shot put, discus, and relay races. The children showed fantastic teamwork, determination and sportsmanship as they took part in the challenges, just as athletes would have done in Ancient Greece.

During the morning, the children also explored Greek myths and traditions through a variety of craft activities. They made laurel wreaths, inspired by the crowns awarded to victorious Olympic athletes. They also created impressive Medusa masks, bringing one of Ancient Greece’s most famous mythical characters to life through art and creativity.

In the afternoon, the children were treated to a wonderful surprise – an Ancient Greek feast! Tables were filled with a selection of foods inspired by those enjoyed in Ancient Greek times. The children loved sampling the different foods and learning more about what people ate thousands of years ago. Mrs Atkinson served red or white wine while the children feasted (summer fruits and apple squash!). The feast provided a fantastic opportunity to bring history to life and immerse ourselves in the culture of Ancient Greece.

The day was full of excitement, learning and laughter, and the children thoroughly enjoyed stepping back in time to experience life as an Ancient Greek. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day, and we are sure they will have many happy memories of this special event for years to come.
