For more than three decades, Georgie D has been the soundtrack to countless weddings, festivals, dances and celebrations across Australia, earning a reputation as one of the Greek Australian community’s most recognisable DJs.
From intimate family functions to major multicultural festivals, Georgie D has built his career on a genuine passion for music and an ability to connect generations through songs that evoke memories, celebration and kefi.
His love of Greek music began long before he ever stood behind a DJ booth.
“From a very young age my parents would often take me and my siblings to Greek dances, concerts and theatre,” Georgie D recalls.
“I have always absolutely loved the Greek culture & live Greek music. Genres ranging from rembetika, laika, Modern Greek, Entehna, and the list goes on.”
What started as a spontaneous opportunity in 1990 soon became a lifelong career.
“I remember being invited to a birthday ‘house party’ in Belmore in 1990 that hadn’t booked any entertainment for the evening and I took over the cassette player playing music they had in their collection,” he says.
“It was so much fun, everyone had a great night and I thought that this could make a great weekend hobby that may even turn professional.”

More than 35 years later, that prediction has certainly come true.
Throughout his career, Georgie D has become a familiar face at Greek festivals, community celebrations and multicultural events, something he attributes not only to hard work but also to the support of the community itself.
“I have worked hard over the years and have built a strong reputation within the Greek Australian community,” he says.
“I think the key to my longevity has been the loving support I have received from clients and venues that have booked me for their events and continue to do so.
“I believe that having a deep passion and love for all types of music, delivering unforgettable programs, interacting and knowing how to read and feel your audience really does come with many years of experience.”
For Georgie D, DJing has always been about much more than simply playing songs.
“Bringing people together through music is beautiful, especially Greek music. Greeks don’t just dance, we live and breathe the music,” he says.
“Sparking the kefi at events is something I deliver naturally when you’ve lived it all these years. It’s in my soul.”
His career has also been shaped by long-standing relationships with respected figures in the events industry, including Bill Mougios and The Grand Roxy Function Centre.
“I have worked closely with Bill Mougios for many years at The Grand Roxy Function Centre, providing my services for a wide variety of events,” Georgie D says.
“Collaborations like this are built with understanding and trust. This makes it very important to me that every client feels the same level of care and reliability on their special night.”
One of Georgie D’s greatest strengths is his ability to cater for multicultural audiences. With Greek, Egyptian and Italian heritage, he offers music from a broad range of cultural backgrounds, carefully tailoring every event to suit each client.
“I do offer a wide variety of many world music backgrounds. Being able to cater to many different nationalities is what I believe sets my service apart,” he says.
“Each event is tailored and structured to each individual, from consulting with clients planning their event formalities and all music requirements.”
Like the industry itself, Georgie D’s equipment has evolved dramatically over the decades.
“I have seen big changes over the years, technology especially as I started playing cassettes and LP vinyl records, soon after CD’s and USB’s,” he says.
“I now use a DJ controller that uses built in hardware and software that allows you to manipulate music by using a laptop computer.”
He has also embraced social media, using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to showcase his work, connect with audiences and collaborate with fellow entertainers. Those efforts have helped him build an Instagram following of more than 30,000 people.
Despite all the technological advances, Georgie’s motivation remains unchanged.
“Looking ahead, I will keep on chasing what I love and that is entertaining people by playing the music they love for as long as I can, God willing,” he says.
For Georgie D, success has never simply been measured by packed dance floors or decades behind the decks. Instead, it has been about creating moments that bring families, friends and communities together — one song at a time.
