Foreign travelers who visited Greece in 2025 reached 43.31 million, representing an increase of 6.4% compared to 40.69 million in the previous year. This rise contributed to total travel receipts of €23.63 billion, up 9.4% year-on-year.
According to final data from the Bank of Greece, average per capita expenditure per trip stood at €545.5, an increase of 2.8% compared to €530.6 in 2024.
At the same time, average daily spending per overnight stay rose by 7.7% to €96.6, from €89.7 in 2024. However, the average duration of stay declined by 4.5%, reaching 5.6 overnight stays per trip.
Total overnight stays by non-residents amounted to 244.67 million, an increase of 1.6% compared to 2024. Air passenger traffic increased by 5.6%, while road border traffic rose by 6.9%. Visitors from the 27 EU member states accounted for 51.8% of total arrivals.
In terms of key source markets, Germany remained the leading contributor with 5.95 million arrivals (+10.2%), followed by the United Kingdom with 4.89 million (+7.6%). Italy recorded 2.20 million arrivals (+8.6%), while France saw a slight decline of 0.5% to 1.98 million. Arrivals from the United States remained broadly stable at 1.55 million (+0.2%), while Russia recorded 21,500 arrivals (+33.3%).
On the revenue side, the 27 EU countries generated €12.69 billion (+6.0%), with Germany contributing €3.78 billion (+2.2%). The United Kingdom recorded a strong increase of 18.4%, with revenues reaching €3.74 billion. Revenues from the United States amounted to €1.74 billion (+9.7%), France €1.33 billion (+5.6%), and Italy €1.29 billion (+4.9%). Revenues from Russia reached €23.8 million, an increase of 51.5%.
Overall, 93.3% of total revenues derived from travel for personal reasons, with leisure trips generating €20.65 billion (+9.8%). Business travel accounted for €1.58 billion (6.7% of the total), marking an increase of 12.9%.
Cruise passenger numbers are estimated at 5.61 million, up 12%. Piraeus remained the main cruise hub, accounting for 49.3% of total cruise revenues and 14.9% of cruise ship arrivals.
Regionally, the south Aegean recorded the largest share of revenues at €6.62 billion and the highest number of overnight stays at 53.12 million. The greater Athens region registered the highest volume of visits with 9.71 million, followed by the South Aegean with 7.62 million and central Macedonia with 7.19 million.
Greek residents’ spending on trips abroad rose to €3.34 billion in 2025, an increase of 19%, or €533.7 million, compared to the previous year.
