Greek Festival returns this week

MORNING HEADLINES  | The 55th annual Charleston Greek Festival returns to downtown on Friday through Sunday with a huge celebration of Greek culture and food. Attendees can enjoy Greek food, wine, live music, dancing and more.

The festival on Race Street is the oldest in the Charleston area, dating back to 1970, and the third largest festival in the Lowcountry. More than 35,000 attendees are expected over the weekend, organizers say.

Schedule: The festival opens 4 p.m.  Friday.  On Saturday, it’s open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.  On Sunday, there’s a 10 a.m. church service, followed by the festival from noon to 5 p.m.

Parking and transportation: To attend the event on Race Street, you’re encouraged to take a free shuttle service.  Parking for the event is free at the MUSC parking lot at 333 Fishburne St.  across the street from the RiverDogs stadium.

Tickets: Tickets for adults are $5. Kids under 12 are free.
