Greece police seek suspect in fraudulent store returns scheme

Greece, N.Y. — The Greece Police Department is asking for the public’s help in the search for a suspect wanted on several charges.

On three separate occasions, police said Joseph Gillis, 30, entered an unidentified store in Greece that he was previously banned from for trespassing, took merchandise inside the shop and fraudulently returned the items for store credit.

Police said Gillis used a contracting business account that did not belong to him during these transactions.

A warrant has been issued charging Gillis with three counts each of third-degree burglary, identity theft and petit larceny, police said.

Police are currently investigating similar incidents at other home improvement retail businesses in Greece.

Anyone with information on Gillis’ whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Greece police at (585) 581-4016. You can also email tips to GPDTips@GreeceNY.gov.
