Memory, music and dance meet at Thebarton Hellenic Festival

Thebarton Hellenic Festival 2026 returns this April 25 as a day of cultural celebration, with performances highlighting the Hellenic history of Adelaide’s western suburbs. The festival, presented by the Greek Orthodox Community of St George Thebarton and Western Suburbs Inc, will begin with ANZAC Day commemorations, honouring shared sacrifice across Australian and Greek generations in the service of liberty, and the historical ties between Greece and Australia during the Gallipoli campaign – Australian nurses and Diggers used the Aegean island of Lemnos as a field hospital and base.

The festival, at the St George precinct, will feature a program that reflects the depth and continuity of Hellenic culture in South Australia.

Veteran journalist and television host George Donikien will emcee the event and guide proceedings. There will be performances from students of St George College, as well as dance groups such as the Messinian Dance School, the Cretan Association of South Australia Dance Group, the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia Dance Academy and the St George Hellenic Dance Academy.

Live musical performances from The Band Kosmos, Theo Skaltsas and Carly Yelayotis will get crowds dancing, while DJs Valandi and Kosta Nico will keep the energy going for the young and the young at heart.

The chair of the festival’s organising committee, Spero Perdikoyiannis, told Neos Kosmos that the event “continues to play an important role in connecting generations”.

“The Thebarton Hellenic Festival celebrates who we are as South Australian Hellenes — it reflects our history, faith, culture and our people. It brings together generations of South Australians in a way that is both meaningful and joyful.”

Live music, dance and food will create a panegyric day in honour of the continuing role and impact of Greeks in Adelaide’s west.

April 25, from 1pm to evening, St George precinct, Thebarton, the event begins at 12:45 with an ANZAC Commemoration.
