My Darling in Stirling

Greek-Australian filmmaker Bill Mousoulis’ new feature film; My Darling in Stirling, is having its Melbourne premiere next week.

The musical is Mousoulis’s 11th feature in a career spanning 40 years. The film is a low-budget community effort, highlighting the town of Stirling situated in the Adelaide Hills. A fairy-tale but realist musical, where every line is sung, it is a joyful but also melancholic film, about lost innocence.

The protagonist, a young woman, Emma (Amelie Dunda), studying at university and living at home with her mother and brother in the Adelaide suburbs, falls in love with a cafe waiter Nick (Henry Cooper), who lives and works in the town of Stirling in the Adelaide Hills (Peramangk country). Entranced by the man and the town, she begins to feel a sense of excitement and vitality in her life.

My Darling in Stirling is inspired by the all-singing 1964 film directed by Jacques Demy, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.

There will be a filmmaker introduction prior to the screening and a Q&A after the film, moderated by film critic Philippa Hawker.

When: Sunday September 22, 2.30pm

Where: ACMI Cinema 2, Federation Square

Anthony Locascio – Pappou

Greek Italian rising comedian Anthony Locascio brings his show to Melbourne.

Pappou immigrated to Australia from Greece in the 1950’s, ferried over to become the top goalkeeper in Australian soccer.

This dream ended abruptly when Pappou’s fist had a chance encounter with a referee’s head.

In 2024, his grandson’s dream of being a stand-up comedian hangs in the balance, as he contends with the challenges of a modern man; staying off the vapes, raising kittens, and defeating the corruption of world football from the safety of a podcast microphone.

This show shall determine if Anthony is carrying on Pappou’s legacy by chasing his dream, or if he just should’ve become a doctor like his grandfather always wanted.

Two shows on the same night, first show sold out.

When: Friday September 20, 7.30pm (doors open 7pm)

Where: The Greek Centre, Mezzanine, 168 Lonsdale St
