The conclusions about Greek Tourism in TIF

Not even the most pessimistic person in Tourism could have imagined that from the announcements of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Tourism would “receive” such a negative sign.

The promises made for months – especially on the matter of establishing rules and specifications for short-term rentals -, the leaks from the Maximos Palace, the pressures from the industry bodies, including the Ministry of Tourism, had created expectations that this time, “finally something will happen”.

And not only are there no restrictions, not only are there no operating and safety rules, but the message is also getting out that measures have allegedly been taken, with the “freezing” for one year of the issuance of NEW permits for short-term rental accommodation, in just three neighborhoods of Athens, when there are areas outside of Athens and Thessaloniki that operate a 5-digit number of accommodations of this type.

In addition, an increase in the climate change resilience fee was announced, which will make the already expensive Greek hotels and accommodation even more expensive.

2025 will not be an easy year for Greek Tourism.

The virtuous cycle of Tourism, this time lasted much longer than usual, but all beautiful things come to an end.

Greek Tourism has proven that it is too tough to die.
But if he stops contributing, what he has been offering in recent years, everyone will feel it: Economy, Society and – obviously – the government.
