Feasting for a cause, dancing till dusk

LEWISTON (WGME) — The Greek Festival in Lewiston has live music, drinks and endless food.

“We made a lot of it, the people have been cooking here for the last three months. It’s all volunteer work and some things we buy because they’re just so hard to make and it’s better that somebody else does it,” volunteer Christos Gianopoulos said.

Home-made pastries, baklava, chicken dinners, lamb and more are all on the menu.

Organizers say all the money that’s raised stays in the community and the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

There’s live music and dancing on Saturday from noon until 9 p.m., but the big draw is the food.

“We came hoping to have some delicious Greek food and pastries to take home and see some dancing. We’ve been to many Greek festivals in other areas before and they’re a lot of fun, the food is wonderful,” one guest said.

Volunteers say the festival is an opportunity to show neighbors and everyone the wonders of Greek culture.

The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
