Greek Sports Tourism Events Taking Place in September

Golf matches in Messinia and swimming and running events in Salamina and Ioannina are held in September, inviting sports enthusiasts to practice their skills while experiencing the breathtaking landscape of these regions.

Supported by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), these events aim to highlight the tourism attractions of the areas, while promoting Greece as an ideal destination for sports tourism.

Greek Maritime Golf Event

The Costa Navarino in Messinia, Peloponnese will host the Greek Maritime Golf Event for the tenth year.

From September 5 to 8, the event will feature 80 contestants, including top international shipping executives, competing on two renowned courses: The Hills Course, an 18-hole course, and the International Olympic Academy Golf Course, both situated at the historic Bay of Navarino and the port of Pylos.

Salamis Go 2024: Swim, Fun, Run

On September 8, “Salamis Go 2024: Swim, Fun, Run” will take place for the second time on the island of Salamina, Attica. The event offers open-water swimmers a unique swimming experience as well as a beautiful route for those who love road running.

The event program features swimming races of 750 meters, 2 km, 5 km, and 10 km, all taking place at Psili Ammos beach. The event will conclude with 5 km and 10 km running races, along with a 750-meter race for children.

Ioannina Lake Run

From September 21 to 22, the Ioannina Lake Run will include a range of events, such as running races of 5 km, 10 km, and 30 km, along with a 30 km walking race around Lake Pamvotida.

Additionally, the program offers races for mothers and children, family and elementary school student routes, and a 1000-meter course for runners with disabilities.

According to the Greek tourism board, the event, running since 2007, aims to promote tourism in the Ioannina region and protect the natural wealth of the lake.
