Long Beach, Calif. Greek Festival Marked 75 Years Raising Church Funds

This year’s Long Beach Greek Festival in California was the 75th event as the fundraiser for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church and to show off Greek culture, dancing and music – but it’s the food that keeps people coming.

After all, who can pass up gyros, souvlaki and moussaka and the wide array of foods – including desserts – while socializing with friends and family and making new friends, and making it seem like you’re in Greece.

“This is very similar to what a Greek festival in Greece would be like. If you’re traveling through Greece and you stop at a local festival it would look like this with delicious food, delicious drinks and live music,” spokesman Thanasi Papoulias told the Press Telegram.

“The food is the main draw. It’s made there, it’s prepped fresh and there’s a whole array of foods,” Papoulias said. “Everything you can think of under the sun that’s food related is there,” he added, chowing down while listening to music.
