51st annual Panegyri fest celebrates Greek culture in Cincinnati

It’s time to yell ‘OPA!’ at the top of your lungs once again. The 51st annual Panegyri Greek Festival returns this summer.

As it is every year, the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church will be putting on the festival outside their building with tons of homemade Greek dishes alongside plenty of live music and entertainment when the festival runs from June 26-28.

The festival promises Greek flavors of all kinds, from authentic cuisine to Cincinnati-tinged spins on classic dishes.

This year’s biggest marquee addition is a collaboration with local ice cream chain Aglamesis Bros, where the festival’s famous baklava has been infused into the chain’s French vanilla flavor for a brand-new flavor combination.

Also new this year is sokolatopita, a Greek chocolate cake drenched in Belgian chocolate syrup and finished with a smooth ganache. Like always, plenty of Greek favorites will be on hand: gyros, souvlaki, tiropitas, moussaka, feta cheese, hummus, pita, dolmathes, and more.

In terms of entertainment, George Karras and the Kakias brothers will fill the air with sounds of bouzoukis, and traditional Greek folk dancers will be moving and shaking all night long. Guests can also tour the neo-Byzantine architecture inside the church.
