Director’s Note by Giorgos Tsemberopoulos
“My aim in this film is to delve into the soul of a man who reached millions through his songs. Stelios Kazantzidis’s powerful and magical voice broke barriers for himself and those around him. However, the demands of his family, his loves, and his soaring popularity left limited room for personal happiness.
The film captures the birth of iconic songs that Greeks continue to cherish during their celebrations. As the narrative unfolds, viewers witness the country’s transition from poverty to a burgeoning new era. This film offers a window into the seeds of our present-day evolution.
Cinematically, ‘Yparcho’ focuses on the authenticity of its characters. Over time, as the settings and attire evolve, we see them subtly infused with fresh materials and vibrant colors, capturing the spirit of classic black-and-white films with contemporary cinematic techniques. Our aim is to revisit and bring to life the dawn of Greek stardom and rekindle appreciation for Stelios Kazantzidis as a cherished hero in this filmic recounting.”
