“Women Of The Cyclades Through Time” Exhibition At Athens International Airport – Greek City Times

The exhibition will run until May 31, 2025.

After four successful exhibitions, the Museum of Cycladic Art collaborates again with Athens International Airport by organising the exhibition “Cycladic Women through Time”.

The exhibition is hosted in the Art & Culture space on the Arrivals level of the Airport and will run until May 31, 2025.

Visitors will be able to see aspects of the history of the Cyclades, as documented through the female marble figurines created by the island societies of the third millennium BC.

The Cycladic figurines in the world-renowned collection of the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens present a society that worshipped women: smaller and larger antiquities represent the female figure either as a mother, a goddess, an offering, or even a ritual object.

In the white marble of the figurines of the Proto-Cycladic period (3200-2000 BC), female figures that give birth to “life” are sculpted. Women with strong gender features and slightly bulging bellies or incised lines above their pubes indicate pregnancy or delivery.
