The island’s live music scene is alive and kicking as venues and musicians gear up for evenings to remember. This month, local musicians and artists from abroad are presenting performances to satisfy all tastes.
Approaching soon is a rock ’n’ roll night at Sarah’s Jazz & Blues Club with Cyprus’ high-octane Goodfellas Blues band. On Friday, March 13, guitarist and vocalist Emmanuel Vourakis, vocalist George Kalopedis, Marios Michael on bass, and Omiros Miltiadous on drums will perform a blend of blues and roots music. Expect classic hits from all forms of blues music and soul-stirring tunes, starting at 9.30pm.
The jazz venue has plenty more musical evenings in store this month. On the following night, the spirit of the 1930s and ’40s swing and jazz era will come to life in the capital city as The Steppin’ Out Jazz Band performs live. New Orleans jazz, Lindo Hop tunes, swinging tracks and good ol’ jazz melodies will sound on Saturday night as Alice Ayvazian, Dimitris Miaris, Costas Challoumas and Stelios Xydias take the stage.
In a different mood, Studio Taps Bar is hosting a Greek music night to end the week with a special Sunday night live. Antonis Antoniou on tzoura, Charalambos Giorkas on bouzouki, Giagkos Giagkou on mbaglamas and Andreas Neocleous on guitar will play folk, rembetiko and other Greek music to uplift spirits.
Back at Sarah’s Jazz & Blues Club, Thursday nights have turned into Latin jazz and Cuban nights. Local five-piece band Havana Noche bring an explosive Latin jazz repertoire with Constadinos Paouros driving the groove on drums, Nicolas Tryphonos with deep acoustic bass lines, Vasilis Charalambous keeping the rhythm on the congas, Michalis Michael on his sizzling trumpet and Alex Edward Rodriguez with his rhythmic piano. Their next live is on Thursday, March 19 at 9pm.
Classical music is on the agenda as well, as the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra presents the Starlight 4 concerts this month. First, at Pattihio Theatre in Limassol on March 18 and then at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre in Nicosia on the following evening.

Two international artists will be joining the orchestra for this concert series – Sharon Kam, one of the world’s leading clarinetists and Michalis Economou, a world-esteemed conductor, composer and educator. Together with the ochestra musicians they will perform Carl Maria von Weber’s, Theodore Antoniou and Edward Elgar.
Last but not least, is a live performance by Greek singer Nefeli Fasouli on March 28 at DownTown Live, bringing her blend of entechno, jazz and folk inspirations to Nicosia’s live music stage.
