What’s on this month at Rialto Theatre?

A busy year ends with a packed agenda

It has been a busy year at Rialto Theatre with numerous cultural productions each month. And the year is not over yet with the period before the Christmas holiday seeing Rialto host more performances in store for all to enjoy. Here’s what’s still on this December at the Limassol theatre.

On Tuesday, FlashArt 2024 will present a ritual performance, a symbolic journey through music titled Ogmios Eidololatreia. A group of artists will take the stage to present an alternative performance with exhausting chants, primal release and animalistic fury, similar to an ancient rite of passage.

On the following evening, popular Greek singer Fivos Delivorias will return to Cyprus for a new concert performance. “This winter,” he says, “I am eager to travel across Greece and Cyprus. To make music alongside others. I have decided not to perform in any Athenian music venue but instead to explore stages across all places illuminated on the Greek map. My winter project will, naturally, be called The Map. By my side, I want to have the two musicians who have been my main companions en route to my musical exploration for the past 14 years: Costas Christodoulou and Sotiris Douvas.”

Then on December 21 as Cyprus gets fully into the Christmas spirit, Rialto Theatre welcomes a cinematic Christmas concert by André Rieu and the exquisite Johann Strauss Orchestra. Performing live on the big screen, the pre-recorded concert will take audiences on a journey to a winter wonderland full of Christmas classics.

A Christmas musical by Epilogi Cultural Movement will follow on December 22, presenting the production in Greek A Kidnapped Santa Claus. The performance features soloists Mariza Anastasiadi, Marios Andreou, Tasoula Vorka, musicians Corina Vassiliou (piano), Doros Zisimos (cello), Natalie Neofytou (oboe) and the Epilogi Children’s Choir and Workshop together on stage.

This delightful Christmas tale will remind audiences how faith and love can conquer all. Featuring music from the most beloved musicals, this special Christmas performance for young audiences also promises a good dose of laughter and singing.

After a short Christmas break, the theatre will return with a packed 2025 agenda and some events are already planned. They include concerts by some high profile singers of the Greek music scene Margarita Zormbala, Maria Papageorgiou and Tania Tsanaklidou. Of course, that is not all. January is expected to be big at Rialto Theatre as the team prepares to enter the New Year with a refreshed cultural agenda!
