The Mother Must Die – Melbourne Launch
Join poet, writer and performer Koraly Dimitriadis to launch her debut short story collection The Mother Must Die.
Hosted by the Greek Community of Melbourne this free event will also feature an intimate conversation event with acclaimed author Christos Tsiolkas.
For readers in Sydney, Dimitriadis will appear on October 20 at the University of Sydney’s Chau Chak Museum, beside the Cypriot antiquities collection. The Sydney event will include an in-conversation with poet and academic Michele Seminara, offering another opportunity for literary enthusiasts to delve into Dimitriadis’ work and her perspectives on contemporary writing.

Gods Eating Gods in Greek Myth
Usually, Greek gods have a refined diet of ambrosia and nectar. Occasionally, they eat other gods. It might be their children, it might be a powerful ancestor or it might be a partner.
In this free talk, Dr Christopher Gribbin explores four Greek myths featuring gods eating gods and tries to make sense of them. Why do they do it? What does it achieve? Why did the Greeks come up with myths like that? And how did the Greeks feel about their gods behaving that way?

Live @ the Greek: Demotika Presents ‘Viomata’
Demotika will take the stage at the Greek Centre to present Viomata – music that comes from people’s personal experiences, a historical event, ancestral stories, or a defined state of mind.
Dedicates itself to the fascinating themes and stories of people from the depths of the underground cities of Cappadocia, to the “Andamoma” of the Sarakachan tribes of Zagori.
The audience will then be invited to the dance floor to experience the nature of Greek dance music.

Anthony Locascio – Pappou
Greek Italian rising comedian Anthony Locascio brings his show to Springvale.
Pappou immigrated to Australia from Greece in the 1950’s, ferried over to become the top goalkeeper in Australian soccer.
This dream ended abruptly when Pappou’s fist had a chance encounter with a referee’s head.
In 2024, his grandson’s dream of being a stand-up comedian hangs in the balance, as he contends with the challenges of a modern man; staying off the vapes, raising kittens, and defeating the corruption of world football from the safety of a podcast microphone.
This show shall determine if Anthony is carrying on Pappou’s legacy by chasing his dream, or if he just should’ve become a doctor like his grandfather always wanted.

Dio Patrides was formed in 2017 as a group of friends who decided to merge their musical talents and create a live Greek band.
The band consists of bouzouki, keyboard, drums, guitar, toubeleki and vocals and their focus is on old and modern Greek Laika, with some aspects of rebetiko, traditional and entechno music.
Their passion for Greek music drives them to play for Melbourne’s Greek community at various functions such as parties, weddings, christenings, and club dinner dances, as they would like to share with the community the unmatched vibe that live music can bring to the night.
