It’s always great to be in a place where some major event is taking place, like a music festival or a food festival. You not only get your holiday, you have the option of seeing something special as well – going to a play in an ancient theatre, say, or a music concert or getting to sample some of the best local food and wine.
Here, then, are some of the major events taking place in Greece in 2025, that might help you decide when (or even where) you want to visit.
One of Greece’s most famous cultural festivals, featuring ancient Greek dramas, modern theater, music, and dance performances. The festival takes place in fantastic venues like the ancient Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens and the Epidaurus Ancient Theater.
One of the largest carnivals in Europe, held in Patras. It features parades, colorful costumes, music, and festivities, typically culminating in late February or early March.
Greek Orthodox Easter is one of the most significant religious events in Greece. Visitors can experience unique traditions, such as candlelight processions, feasts, and fireworks, especially in places like Corfu, Crete, and Thessaloniki, but really anywhere in Greece from Athens to tiny villages.
We’ve also written accounts of our own Easter experiences in Greece, once on Rhodes and once on Symi. They’re both good reads, if we do say so ourselves.
A scenic race that takes runners through the stunning landscapes of Santorini, including caldera views and traditional villages.
A major music festival held near Athens, featuring international and Greek artists across various genres, including rock, pop, and electronic music.
A cultural festival in the picturesque town of Nafplio, featuring music, theater, and dance performances in historic venues.
A film festival dedicated to young audiences, held in Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
Celebrated with parades, especially in Athens, to commemorate the start of the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
Thessaloniki hosts one of the most important film festivals in Southeast Europe, showcasing international and Greek films.
We hope that might help you choose where to go in Greece, or when to be there.
Till next time
