What’s coming to Limassol theatre this month

A month packed with events has already begun and several productions have already taken place at Limassol’s Rialto theatre. Dedicated to offering diverse cultural days and nights, the Rialto has a rich February agenda. Here is what is coming up throughout the month.

On the first Friday of February, the Lanitio Alumni and Friends Association, in collaboration with the Music Office of the ministry of education presents a nostalgic concert with Despina Olympiou featuring songs from the Greek retro repertoire, a musical stroll through Athens of the interwar period.

The National Theatre Live series returns on February 12 presenting Anton Chekhov’s Vanya. Andrew Scott, along with a talented cast of actors, brings multiple characters to life in Simon Stephens’ new version of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. The theatrical production will be broadcast live in English and include subtitles in Greek and English.

On the following evening, the internationally acclaimed pianist Martino Tirimo performs masterpieces by three of the greatest composers – Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven and Frédéric Chopin. The recital titled Piano Masterpieces is set to begin at 8.30pm.

Je Suis Malade

THOC’s New Stage will then present Mother, a play written by acclaimed Wajdi Mouawad. February 15’s performance will take audiences on a journey through the author’s memories, weaving a journey through fragmented recollections. Directed by Maria Mannaridou Karsera, the play is performed in Greek and will have subtitles in English and Turkish.

One more local theatre production will arrive at Rialto Theatre in February, and this one addresses children of all backgrounds. AntiLogos Theatre and Humart present Out of the Box, a touching story held on February 16, about emotions and what happens when we dare open up the box of feelings.

On February 18 and 19, the awarded Greek short films of Drama International Short Film Festival will travel to Limassol, as well as Nicosia and Paphos. On both evenings, the screenings will begin at 8pm, will include subtitles in English and have free entrance for all.

The final production planned for February at Rialto Theatre is another theatrical performance. Anemona Theatre will present Je Suis Malade (in Greek), a play based on the turbulent life of world-renowned performer Dalida.
