The Greek Festival of Sydney will highlight numerous Greek female singers who shaped rebetiko in a coming concert titled ‘Untamed Voices’.
The concert will take place at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville on 19 April at 7.30pm, and will feature Elsa Mouratidou and Taxim Trio.
The event will showcase songs spanning from the early 2oth century to the post-war years, featuring artists like Marika Papagika, Rita Abatzi, Angela Papazoglou, Marika Ninou, Ioanna Georgakopoulou, Mary Linda, and Sotiria Bellou.
The concert will also explore the rebel woman as portrayed in rebetiko, even in songs sung by men.
Mouratidou and Taxim Trio will bring the untamed voices to life through the show, singing the songs of these women of rebetiko.
