UK Foreign Office Travel Warning Cyprus Greece Spain Turkey Heatwave 2025

Cyprus is among four countries for which the Foreign Office has issued travel warnings to British tourists due to high temperatures recorded generally in southern European countries and particularly on the island.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has published travel advisories for Spain, Turkey, Greece and Cyprus as a heatwave sweeps across the European Union, according to a Mirror report identified by Philenews.

The warnings come as northern Europe experiences an early summer heatwave, with meteorologists predicting even higher temperatures in coming weeks. Even the United Kingdom felt the heat, with thermometers reaching 34°C on Saturday.

France’s national meteorological service, Meteo France, echoed these warnings, noting that high temperatures pose “a danger to everyone, even healthy individuals”.

Portugal recently recorded this year’s highest temperature at 40.5°C, whilst mercury in parts of Spain exceeded 42°C.

The situation has become more severe in southern Europe, with the Greek island of Chios currently battling a serious wildfire. Residents have been evacuated after the dry island became engulfed in flames over the weekend.

On its website, the FCDO has issued extreme heat warnings for four countries, including Greece, where nighttime temperatures persistently remain above 30°C across large areas of the country.
