Two More Australian Artists Compete To Represent Greece In Eurovision 2025

Two Australian artists, Maree Mamalis and Vassy, are vying for a chance to represent Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. They are among the top 60 artists who have submitted their entries ahead of the Greek national final, scheduled for January 2025.

Maree Mamalis

Maree Mamalis, an 18-year-old singer from Melbourne, might be a familiar face to some due to her participation in the 12th season of The Voice Australia in 2023. Her haunting rendition of Billie Eilish’s “Listen Before I Go” earned her a spot in the top 7 of Jason Derulo’s team, though she was later eliminated during the battle rounds after performing Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato’s feminist anthem “Fall In Line”. The same year, Maree also performed with the Kiss Choir at the AFL Grand Final.

Since then, Maree has been working on her debut EP, submitting one of its songs for the Greek Eurovision national final. She expressed the honor she feels at the opportunity: “It’s such a massive opportunity and honor to represent your country in something so big.”

Maree has Greek heritage, with her father born in Greece and her mother in Australia. She acknowledged the pressure of possibly representing Greece, given her Australian birth: “I’m sure people will have mixed opinions about it, and that’s fine.”

According to Neos Kosmos, Maree’s entry features a modern sound with a touch of Greek influence, including the bouzouki.

Vassy

Vasiliki Karagiorgos, known as Vassy, is an accomplished Australian singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She made history as the first woman to win an ICON Award at the 2023 Electronic Dance Music Awards in the US. Vassy is well-known for her hit singles, including “Bad” with David Guetta, which boasts over 2 billion streams, and her 2015 collaboration with Tiësto and KSHMR, “Secrets,” which has over 330 million streams on Spotify.

Vassy confirmed to Neos Kosmos that she was approached to submit an entry for the Greek national final. She spoke about the pride she feels in representing both Greece and Australia: “I feel very Australian and very Greek. I think the Greeks in Australia feel proud due to the cultural pride tied to our immigrant roots.”

Vassy sees this opportunity as a chance to inspire the younger Greek Australian generation: “This would be a beautiful full-circle story… I think people recognize and resonate with my journey.”

Australia has a notable track record with artists of Greek heritage participating in Eurovision, including Sydney’s Andrew Lambrou and Silia Kapsis representing Cyprus in recent years.
