Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas earned his first win in Melbourne since 2024, defeating Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki in four sets to reach the second round of the Australian Open.
After losing the opening set, Tsitsipas found his rhythm on serve, hitting 15 aces and winning 78% of first-serve points, gradually taking control of the match.
His next opponent is Czech player Tomas Machac, ranked world No 24 and recent winner in Adelaide.
Tsitsipas said he was pleased with his performance in the last three sets and praised the support of Greek fans in Melbourne.
