The 11th International Music Festival of Molyvos is scheduled to take place from August 12 to 19, with events in Molyvos, Mytilene and Sigri. It is an organization of the Cultural Civic Non-Profit Association “International Music Festival of Molyvos”, which over the past eleven years has developed into one of the most recognized classical music institutions in Europe.
The festival, which began in 2015, is now a reference point for the cultural events of the North Aegean, bringing together internationally recognized artists, the local community and visitors from all over the world. With high artistic standards and an innovative approach, it has linked musical creation with sustainable development and the cultural identity of the island.
Musical events with a focus on cultural heritage
This year’s event, with the theme “Chaos”, includes six evening concerts, a concert for children and the presentation of a new work by a Greek composer in a world premiere. Particular emphasis is placed on connecting music with the natural and cultural environment of Lesvos, as three of the concerts will take place in selected locations of ecological and archaeological interest. Through these events, the aim is to disseminate classical music to the general public and highlight the island’s cultural heritage through musical experiences and parallel tours.
The festival also includes the “Musical Moments”, short musical interventions that take place during the day in different parts of Molyvos, capitalizing on the traditional character of the settlement and contributing to the creation of a new audience.
Beyond the Stage: Education and Participation
The institution operates on two main axes: the festival itself during the summer, and the educational programs implemented throughout the year. The aim is to strengthen musical education and creative expression among young people, through actions that cultivate interest in classical music, encourage the participation of residents and strengthen the sense of local pride.
Culture as a lever for sustainable tourism development
The International Molyvos Music Festival has contributed substantially to the promotion of Lesvos as a cultural destination at an international level. It attracts visitors from different countries, helping to stimulate the local economy and creating new prospects for cooperation between cultural and tourism organizations. At the same time, it highlights Greek artists and strengthens their international presence, promoting cultural dialogue.
The festival is supported by the North Aegean Region, and is now a mature institution that combines artistic quality with social and environmental impact. As pointed out by the organizers, the continuation and strengthening of such actions is crucial for the sustainable development and international visibility of the region.
