Tornos News | Skloupo Trail Run 2025: Sports meet the cultural and natural heritage of Epirus

On July 6th in Ampelohori, Ioannina, the 7th Anomalos Dromos – Skloupo Trail Run 2025 is scheduled to take place.

According to the organizers, the race is now one of the most important sports institutions in Epirus, with the Association of Ampelohorites leading its organization, in collaboration with the Region of Epirus. This event is not just a road race on uneven terrain, but a celebration that combines sports with the promotion of the cultural and natural heritage of the Northern Tzoumerka region.

The appeal of the Skloupo Trail Run is enormous and confirms the steady increase in interest in sports tourism in Epirus. Every year, hundreds of runners from all over Greece respond to the call, choosing to experience the magical nature of Ampelochori and the surrounding villages through a demanding but exciting route that crosses mountains, forests, and picturesque landscapes.

The Region of Epirus, with its continuous support, highlights the importance of such events that promote the region as a destination for high-quality events and at the same time contribute to the economic and tourist development of the wider region. The event creates significant mobility, as the presence of athletes and their companions increases the demand for accommodation, catering, and transport services, thus strengthening the local economy.

In addition, many of the participants take the opportunity to stay in the area and explore other points of interest in Epirus, extending the tourist season beyond the traditional summer framework. In this way, the race is part of a broader strategy for the development of sports tourism, which respects the environment and promotes sustainability.

Finally, the Skloupo Trail Run is not limited to sports. The Association of Apantachos Ampelochoritos seeks, through this event, to highlight the rich history, traditions, and local customs of Ampelochorio, making the race an occasion for cultural promotion and local support. Thus, this institution creates a unique bridge between sports, nature, and culture, offering a comprehensive experience to visitors and residents of Epirus.
