The Regional Development Fund of Crete (RDFK) is taking an important step towards strengthening the food culture of Crete by signing a contract with ETAM S.A. Consulting and Research Services for the preparation of the Operational Plan “Cretan Food Culture 2026-2030”. The total amount of the contract amounts to 30,000 euros plus VAT.
The Operational Plan aims to preserve, highlight, and exploit the Cretan food wealth and cultural heritage, while incorporating innovative actions for the sustainability of the Cretan food model. Critical points of the plan include:
- Preserving and Promoting Cretan Food Culture: The aim is to preserve and develop local food traditions, in combination with the promotion of Cretan products at an international level.
- Exploiting Points of Excellence and Product Concept: The plan seeks to highlight Crete’s unique capabilities in the production of authentic products.
- Creating Added Value and Know-how: New strategies will be developed to improve local products and services.
- Coordination and Collaboration with Stakeholders: The activation of stakeholders from the local community, tourism, and cultural communities will be crucial for the success of the strategy.
- Sustainability and Resilience: The plan includes actions to ensure the long-term development and economic benefits of Crete’s food cultural heritage.
This plan will be based on previous strategic documents, while incorporating the proposals and needs of local producers, tourism operators, and cultural organizations through consultation and participation. The completion of the operational plan is expected to strengthen Crete’s position on the international food and tourism map, while promoting the development of sustainable and innovative practices in local production and economy.
The preparation of the operational plan will include, among other things, the assessment of existing data, the development of strategies, and the implementation of actions for the financing of initiatives. At the same time, a monitoring and evaluation mechanism will be established to measure the performance and results of the plan.
With the implementation of the plan, Crete seeks to strengthen its cultural identity and highlight local gastronomy as a central pillar of its tourism development.
