Tornos News | First Epirus Music Village at the Pogoni Estates

A new cultural institution is being acquired in Epirus this year, with the organization of the First Epirus Music Village, which will open its doors in August 2025, at the Pogoni Estates. This is an initiative of the International Center for Epirus Music (ICEM), which aspires to become a meeting and creation point for those who serve and love traditional music, song, and dance.

Inspired by similar successful events such as “Labyrinth” in Crete, the Musical Village in Pelion and the workshops in Drama, the project in Pogoni aims to fill a significant gap in Epirus: the creation of an experiential cultural space dedicated exclusively to the Epirus tradition, which constitutes one of the richest and most recognizable musical identities in Greece.

A village full of music and knowledge

The Epirus Musical Village will take place at the end of August and will last one week. During its duration, workshops, seminars, and concerts will be held by renowned teachers and artists with many years of experience. The program includes instruction in:

  • Instrumentals: clarinet, lute, violin, traditional percussion
  • Vocals: polyphonic and monophonic singing of Epirus
  • Dances from various regions of the mainland

In parallel, in the evenings, the village will come alive through music and dance events, open to the public and participants, transforming the experience into a complete celebration of tradition.

Tradition and modern creation in dialogue

The core of the organization is the connection of the musical heritage of Epirus with modern creation. Participants – musicians, educators, researchers and amateurs – will have the opportunity to delve into the special timbres and rhythms of the region, to exchange experiences and to develop their relationship with the traditional repertoire through new perspectives.

As the organizers emphasize, “the goal of the Music Village is to become a living workshop for the preservation and renewal of Epirus music. Not as a museum relic, but as an active, creative, and dynamic cultural organization.”

A cultural breath for Pogoni

The choice of Pogoni Buildings, a village on the Greek-Albanian border, has a special symbolism. Pogoni, with its long tradition in music and song, is re-established through this initiative as a place of cultural revitalization and the promotion of local identity.

The action is supported by the Municipality of Pogoni, which actively participates in the implementation and promotion of the organization, recognizing the importance of such initiatives for strengthening the cultural and social life of remote areas.

Information and registration

Those interested can find detailed information about the workshops, speakers, and the program of the Epirus Music Village on the official website of the event: www.mousikaktismata.gr. There, they can also register and secure their place in time, as registrations are expected to be high.

  • The First Epirus Music Village is not just a cultural event. It is a call to return to the roots, a channel of communication between generations, and a bet on the future of tradition in Epirus – a bet that already seems to be winning.
