The Mythological Story of Gemini ♊ | Greek Mythology Explained

Have you ever wondered how Gemini emerged in Greek Mythology?
According to legend, Zeus saw Leda, the wife of King Tyndaros of Sparta, while he was looking at the earth through the clouds and liked her very much.
After seeing Leda by a river where she was alone, he approached her disguised as a swan in order to be with her and they had an affair.
On the night of the same day, Leda also has an affair with King Tyndaros.
After these events, Leda gave birth to twin children named Castor and Clytemnestra from King Tyndaros and Pollux and Helen from Zeus.
According to legend, Pollux and Helen are the immortal children of Zeus, while Castor and Clytemnestra are the mortal children of Tyndaros.
Although Castor and Pollux were excellent warriors, Castor lost his life in a battle. Pollux, who loves his brother very much and cannot bear his death, begs his father Zeus:

“Dear father, don’t separate me from my brother!”

Zeus places both of them among the stars in the sky as Twin Stars.
Castor and Pollux thus became the symbol of Gemini.
