At his sister’s engagement party almost a decade ago, John Nikolaou met Pete Koutropoulos, whose cousin was the fiancee and for the two became friends with interests in food and music – and now in starting a business partnership.
That is Yeero Revolution in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, the restaurant’s name a take-off, of course, on the popular and ubiquitous Greek fast food that’s as loved in the United States as in Greece.
“We always thought it would be great to open up a place one day,” Koutropoulos told the Daily Herald, and to make sure you know it’s Greek they have a big TV screen streaming Athens street scenes.
Both have worked in family restaurants learning the business, including in Greece for Nikolaou, before he came back. “My parents decided that we were going to all move back to Greece,” he said. “That’s where the roots got stronger,” he said.
What makes Yeero so special? “The spices and the love, honestly,” Nikolaou said. “This place is literally built on love.”
