Odysseus’s battle helmet is revealed on the first poster for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, coming to cinemas in 2026
Although we are still seven months away from exploring Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Universal Pictures has shared the first poster for the film. After releasing a limited six-minute preview of the film with screenings of Sinners and One Battle After Another, anticipation for the film has surged. And now, eager to have us all suitably excited, the studio has revealed a one-sheet featuring Odysseus’s battle helmet.
The helmet sports a traditional design, with the back having what appears to be a spinal column running down the neck. The spinal column itself boasts a cool gold color scheme, which offsets the blue Dark Knight-styled poster. But before you join Greece’s legions, take a look at the poster below.
SYNOPSIS
The Odyssey follows Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, on his long and perilous journey home following the Trojan War, chronicling his encounters with mythical beings such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe, while attempting to reunite with his wife, Penelope.
The film is reportedly the most expensive in Nolan’s career, with a budget of $250 million. It will also be the first large-scale film to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras. With Nolan’s track record of utilising IMAX technology, this could be something that becomes an epic, like nothing we have seen before.
GREEK MYTHOLOGY
Thankfully, Nolan has set his stall out early to deliver the most authentic interpretation of Homer’s Odyssey ever committed to film. This includes the mythological creatures and Greek Gods made famous by the great Ray Harryhausen. Throughout his journey, Matt Damon’s Odysseus will face the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe. So fans of the Ray Harryhausen filmography will be eating well next summer, and that is an exciting prospect.
RELEASE
What a phenomenal new poster. After the recent previews of the film, audiences are raving about the footage, calling it jaw-dropping and breathtaking. Some even say the film could be the biggest movie of all time, and that is high praise, indeed. Whether or not the film lives up to the hype remains to be seen. Based on this new poster featuring darkened Roman armor and leather details, the film appears to be shaping up to be the must-see event of the year. I’m definitely looking forward to it and will be there ready for the adventure.
Defy The Gods on July 17th, 2026, when The Odyssey opens in cinemas.
