Many holidaymakers choose their destination based on the local cuisine, whether it’s indulging in French cheese and wine, Spanish tapas or Italian pasta. Each country offers a unique culinary experience, with some nations being more renowned for their food than others.

Despite the UK’s famous fish and chips, British cuisine sadly didn’t make it into the top 30, ranking 48th instead. However, new research by TasteAtlas, which analysed 477,287 ratings for 15,478 foods, has revealed the country with the most delicious cuisine, reports the Express.

Surprisingly, neither Italy, France, nor Spain took the top spot. Instead, Greece was crowned the nation with the best-rated food, boasting national dishes such as stifado (beef stew), moussaka (layers of potato, aubergine and mince) and dolma (stuffed vine leaves).

Not to mention classics like gyros, tzatziki and Greek salad. Italy came in second place, with homegrown foods like pizza, risotto, tiramisu, bruschetta, panna cotta, and nougat.

Mexico secured third place, where tacos, nachos, tortillas, burritos, guacamole, and quesadillas are national dishes.
