The Hellenic Writers’ Association of Australia has announced its annual Student Literary Competition as part of the “Speak Greek in March” campaign, under the auspices of the Consulate General of Greece in Melbourne, The Greek Herald reports. The 2025 competition, titled “From Greece to the World”, invites students across Australia to explore and reflect on the theme of “Greek institutions, customs, and traditions in the Antipodes.”
The competition aims to inspire students to express their thoughts and emotions about preserving Greek customs, values, and traditions in Australia. Participants are encouraged to draw on personal experiences, whether it be community celebrations, the role of individuals in maintaining Greek traditions, or memorable events that showcase the richness of Hellenic culture in the diaspora.
Entries should incorporate at least three of the following words or their derivatives: celebration, tradition, dance, music, festival, friend, grandfather, grandmother, family, table, food, and memory.
Open to primary, secondary, and senior school students across Australia, the competition allows both individual and team submissions (up to three students per team). The accepted literary genres include prose, fairytale, historical fairytale, short story, and poetry. All entries must be original, written in Greek, and submitted in Word format via email.
The competition is divided into three categories: Category A for primary school students, Category B for lower secondary school students, and Category C for senior secondary school students. Each category will have one winner, who will receive a cash prize. Additionally, all participants will receive a certificate of participation. Winning entries and participating schools will be officially announced in the media, and selected works will be published in the 2026 edition of “Logos,” the Association’s annual magazine. An awards ceremony will take place at a public event hosted by the Association.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, June 27. To enter, participants must provide their full name, age, school, year level, contact details, and chosen literary genre. Submissions and inquiries can be made via email to [email protected] with the subject line: “Student Literary Competition.”
