Greek mythology, rock music and youthful energy collide this month as STEAM Studio Minot presents “Olympus: The Greek Rock Musical,” a family-friendly stage production featuring local students.
Performances began Friday, Jan. 23, and will continue Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. in Central Campus Middle School, Minot.
The musical reimagines the gods of Mount Olympus through upbeat music and choreography designed to engage young audiences, while giving student performers hands-on experience in live theater. The cast includes 26 students in grades three through eight, many of whom are returning to the stage after participating in previous productions.
The production is directed by Angela Schneible, who has worked with youth theater and dance programs through Full STEAM Ahead in the past. While Schneible has directed multiple shows, she said Olympus offered a new creative challenge.
“This is my first time directing a Greek rock musical, and it’s been really fun,” Schneible said. “Even with the busyness of the holidays, we figured if we could get a rehearsal here and there, we could pull it together.”

Rehearsals began amid the holiday season, requiring flexibility from both students and families. Schneible said the cast’s enthusiasm and commitment helped bring the show together despite the tight schedule.
For the young performers, the production offers more than just time on stage. Many cited friendships, creativity and confidence as key reasons they enjoy participating in theater.
“I like singing, dancing and meeting new friends,” said Nevaeh Lonning, 11, who is appearing in her third stage production. “They put it on Facebook and we get to join.”
Another cast member, Harper Hanson, 11, plays the role of Wren and has already appeared in nearly 18 productions, despite her young age.
“Theater in general is awesome, and you can do it at whatever age you are,” Harper said. “It’s not just for kids. A lot of adults that I know do it too.”
Harper also said the supportive atmosphere is one of the reasons she continues to return to the stage.
“Everybody’s really nice,” she said. “I don’t think I’ve met a single mean person.”
Organizers said the show reflects STEAM Studio Minot’s mission of blending creative arts with education, while providing accessible opportunities for local youth to explore performing arts. Participation is open to students with varying levels of experience, from first-time performers to seasoned young actors.
