1. Ireland
Ireland is rolling out the red carpet for adventurous souls ready to breathe life back into its most remote islands. The Our Living Islands initiative is offering cash grants of up to €84,000 (£71,150) for individuals who are prepared to buy and renovate homes on 30 of Ireland’s stunning coastal islands.
The goal? To “increase the population”, “diversify the islands’ economies”, and “build sustainable futures”. And if you’re a remote worker or digital nomad, there’s no better place to call home.
2. Swiss village
Tucked away in the Swiss Alps, Albinen is offering a life-changing opportunity for those under 45. Adults who move there can receive 20,000 Swiss Francs (£17,460) – with an additional 10,000 Swiss Francs (£8,730) for every child.
To qualify, you must buy a home worth at least 200,000 Swiss Francs and commit to living there for 10 years. It’s an irresistible offer in a country widely hailed as one of the best in the world for quality of life.
3. Spain
The Spanish town of Ponga in Asturias is dishing out €2,971 (£2,510) to families willing to relocate. Have a baby there? That’s another €2,971 in your pocket.

Worried about Japan’s plummeting birth rate, the government has launched the Regional Revitalization Program, offering up to ¥4,800,000 (£30,000) to families and expats moving to rural towns in desperate need of new life. In 2023, only 758,631 babies were born – a 5.1% drop from 2022, and a far cry from the baby boom of the 1970s.

If you’re considering studying in Canada, the Saskatchewan Graduate Retention Program could be your ticket to a fresh start – and a major payday. Students can receive up to CA$20,000 (£11,580) in tuition reimbursements, depending on their degree length. To qualify, you must graduate from an approved Canadian institution and either live in or plan to move to Saskatchewan.
