Sounds of Cyprus, the acclaimed cultural group celebrates the island’s traditional music and dance in an event at the Gantry Plaza State Park Amphitheater area in Long Island City, NY on June17th, at 5 – 7 pm. This free outdoor performance, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Manhattan skyline, invites audiences to immerse themselves in the unique musical traditions of Cyprus.
The event will showcase an evening filled with live Cypriot music and dance, offering a beautiful opportunity to experience the spirit of Cyprus’s musical heritage in one of New York City’s most scenic locations.
Sounds of Cyprus will be joined by the Greek-American Folklore Society, a renowned group dedicated to preserving and sharing traditional dance practices. The Society will perform alongside the ensemble and lead the audience in learning classic Cypriot dances. This interactive experience offers a unique opportunity for spectators to engage directly with the rhythms and movements of Cyprus, guided by expert dancers who will teach and encourage participation in this lively cultural tradition. Sounds of Cyprus has a longstanding history of engaging audiences through its captivating performances, having received previous support from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Queens Arts Fund, the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture Decentralization Program, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Cyprus. These partnerships have enabled the project to reach audiences in New York and beyond. This event is supported by funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, Statewide Community Regrants Program (formerly the Decentralization Program), with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, and administered by Flushing Town Hall.
