Sofia Vossou shared her position on the reactions surrounding Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, following the decision of certain countries to withdraw from the competition. The singer, who represented Greece at Eurovision 1991 with the song “Anoixi” (Spring), stressed that she opposes any form of boycott, emphasizing the contest’s fundamentally musical nature.
Speaking on the TV show “Hamogela kai Pali”, in statements broadcast on Saturday, December 27, Sofia Vossou pointed out that Eurovision should not be turned into a platform for political confrontation. As she noted, the essence of the institution lies in music and artistic expression, not in international politics.
Referring more specifically to the European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU) decision to allow Israel to participate in this year’s contest, which will take place in May in Austria, the singer stated that it is wrong to target entire nations for the actions of governments or historical events. Using a characteristic example, she underlined that collective responsibility cannot be assigned to a country’s citizens.
According to Sofia Vossou, Eurovision must remain a space for culture and musical coexistence, free from exclusions and political agendas.
