Sinner Gets 3-month Suspension in Out-of-Court Settlement

World no. 1 in the ATP tennis Ranking, Jannik Sinner has been slapped with a three-month suspension from competitive tennis following an out-of-court settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The 23-year-old Italian tennis star, who accepted partial responsibility for testing positive on two doping tests, agreed to the ban in negotiations with the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The settlement between the reigning Australian Open champion and WADA brings an end to the doping case that had been pending since last summer and was scheduled to be resolved in court this coming April.

“This case has been hanging over me for nearly a year and the process still has a long time to run with a decision maybe only at the end of the year, Sinner commented. “I have always accepted that I am responsible for my team and realize WADA’s strict rules are an important protection for the sport I love,” he said.

By reaching this settlement, the Italian avoids further legal proceedings that could have jeopardized his participation in the remaining Grand Slam tournaments of the season.
