According to a recent list published by the Taste Atlas website, Sifnos has secured the second spot among the 100 best places worldwide for sweet culinary offerings.
The international gastronomic guide praises Sifnos’ traditional melopita, describing it as “a light, delicious dessert deeply tied to Sifnos and its traditions.” The melopita earned an impressive rating of 4.6 out of 5, placing it near the top of the extensive list, which features dozens of local delicacies from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Americas.
“Gastronomy is vital to Sifnos’ tradition, history, and evolution. The local cuisine reflects the Sifnians’ love for their island, their passion for pottery, and the use of nature’s gifts. In this context, the art of high-quality food is integral to our invitation to international media and tourism stakeholders,” said Giannis Rafeletos, Sifnos’ Deputy Mayor for Tourism.
Sifnos also earned a spot on Condé Nast Traveler’s list of the best Greek islands, recognized as the top destination for fulfilling experiences that blend gastronomy, creativity, and timelessness. National Geographic further lauded Sifnos’ culinary scene in its annual list of 31 stunning Greek islands for 2025.
According to the international travel outlet, “Sifnos is the birthplace of Nikolaos Tselementes, the ‘father’ of modern Greek cuisine, born in 1878. Visitors should savor the island’s specialties, such as slow-cooked chickpeas and mastelo—lamb stewed in red wine, prepared traditionally in stone pots.”
