Shams Charania reveals work-life balance of a sports insider

Shams Charania reveals how demanding it is to balance work and life activities as a sports insider.

Shams Charania cemented his name as one of the most reliable insiders in the NBA.

Since Adrian Wojnarowski stepped down from the role of ESPN’s Senior Insider, Charania replaced him and took the perch of the next ESPN project after previously working for Yahoo Sports.

Charania talked in depth about the role and how his work obligations affect regular life activities:

“I’ve had to walk out on dates, a lot of social events. My friends don’t really like me. There are just moments where I’m just always gonna choose this,” Charania started for ESPN The Sports Reporters.

“It’s hard to have a consistent relationship, you know the time all of that requires, and the time they deserve, and there are just moments where I have to choose my job.”

Charania states that even with all the difficulties, he still loves his job and wants to do it for a long time.

“If you don’t have the adrenaline, if you don’t have those goosebumps, you’re not doing the job right. I’m treating every signing and move like it’s the biggest move in the world.”

“The day I don’t feel that my job is like that, I’m more than happy to move on. It’s easy to say for me, but I don’t have a wife and kids, I can do this for 10, 15, 20 more years or so,” he concluded.
