Adelaide’s Semaphore Greek Festival 2025 concluded on Sunday, 19 January, leaving a lasting impression on the 40,000 attendees who flocked to the Semaphore Foreshore for a weekend of Greek culture, food, music, and traditions.
Held over two days under the theme “Όλοι Μαζί” (It Takes a Village), the festival emphasised unity, cultural pride, and community spirit. Despite soaring daytime temperatures, the evenings provided the perfect backdrop for the lively celebrations. Organised by the Greek Orthodox Community of the Nativity of Christ, Port Adelaide & Environs, it underscored the significance of multiculturalism in the region.
Festival President Lazaros Panayiotou expressed his gratitude, saying “On behalf of the Semaphore Greek Festival, I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and to our incredible 300+ volunteers. Your passion and hard work brought the spirit of ‘Όλοι Μαζί’ to life. We are also grateful to the South Australian Government and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield for their support in showcasing the rich culture of the Greek community. Efharisto!”

Renowned acts such as Xara Dimitriou and Band Enosis electrified the crowd with live music, transforming the picturesque foreshore into a dance floor under the stars.
Festivalgoers enjoyed the popular “Who Loves Pita” competition and traditional dance performances by groups from across South Australia, celebrating Greek heritage with energy and authenticity.
Local chefs and volunteers served iconic Greek dishes, including yiros, lamb kontosouvli, spanakopita, and loukoumades, providing a feast for the senses.
There was also family fun with plate smashing, a “Yiros Yiros Oli” competition, and other engaging activities ensured fun for attendees of all ages.
A host of dignitaries joined the celebrations, including: Mark Butler MP, Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care; Peter Malinauskas MP, Premier of South Australia; Zoe Bettison MP, Minister for Tourism and Multicultural Affairs; and Alexandra Theodoropoulos, Consul-General of Greece in South Australia.
The event was also attended by local government representatives and members of the South Australian Multicultural Commission.
