As soon as Anthony arrived on the Greek island of Crete, he was treated to the wide assortment of the food it has to offer — something he admits he doesn’t know too much about. At the home of Manolis, a former chef, Tony’s treated to a traditional Cretan meal. Manolis has cooked the staple food of all Greek dinner tables, wild greens, as well as fresh bread, a dip made from milkfat and flour, and a stew made from fresh local snails and stewed tomatoes. It is truly a delicious—yet very healthy—meal. The next day, Tony and Byron go to Hania, a town known for its exceptional seafood. There, Tony meets a local fisherman with a fresh catch of sea urchin, Tony’s favorite. From there he takes Tony to a seaside tavern to sample even more local seafood. They enjoy a meal of sea urchin roe, fresh cuttlefish, sautéed octopus, and an olive oil dip infused with the urchin roe, followed by rounds of raki, a legal form of moonshine created by many Cretans in their own homes.

Tony was rough. Loved a hard life. But damn he has a way with words, connects with people of the farthest places and made us feel like we were there with him. Forever a legend in his own words

Hi all!! Where I can find the full video of this episode?
Cause Greek food is not just souvlaki , moussaka and tzatziki!!!
Thank you Anthony..RIP ❤
This is really as close as you can get to the actual, original Cretan gastronomy. Being a Greek myself, lived in Creta for 6 years and I have been going there since I am 2 years old due to relatives living in the island, I can totally attest: this is the real deal. Well done to the late Anthony Bourdain.
Antony was a legend .A wonderful traveller qurious to discover and taste. That is life's essence!Trully missed because of his good maners and his attitude peoples deal with
It’s not just the meal it’s people and eating together being together takes the loneliness away
Anthony said something that made me think about my existence. He said something like the world gives to us, and we give to the world. I guess I liked visualizing the mechanics of it, however, simple as it may be.
It is so sad you are not alive any more .
I'm from northern Greece and I pretty much grew up eating most of this. My grandparents lived on the countryside and my grandma would go out after a rain and catch snails just beside their house and make this exact dish which is absolutely amazing. Greens would be served often as well. My grandpa would regularly in the summer collect urchins that are still everywhere by the beach near the house and yes they really are fantastic as well. I could be more or less as picky an eater as any kid so it amazes me I would just eat all this stuff! Unfortunately snails and urchin is not something you can just find at any taverna. Thankfully my mother eventually picked up the mantle and makes snails. Haven't had urchin in a very long time though!
No need for the annoying music
People in Crete have better life than any european or american
Only at Crete those plates.
Viva bella Grecia ❤❤
On June 8, Ripert became worried when Bourdain had missed dinner and breakfast. He subsequently found Bourdain dead by suicide in his room at Le Chambard hotel in Kaysersberg near Colmar. Bourdain's body bore no signs of violence and the suicide appeared to be an impulsive act.
All the food looked absolutely delicious… damn.
Looks like they all eat plenty 😂
ahh the 90's in the Greek islands those were much simpler times💯
Anthony Bourdain had the physique of a film star
I remember Anthony saying he didnt really like the Greeks due to a bad boss he had in his past, it really shows with that brutal introduction. RIP
I love how he just gets stuck in. No moaning just enjoying life.
Never discovered good Greek food in my area at home. When I traveled to Athens and Milos, I was blown away by the flavors of the Greek food. RIP to the legend that is Anthony.
Anthony Bourdain had the Liifestyle, and Personality of a Greek Mythical Adventure character, who also promoted Greek Cuisine and Culture. The Greek Government should had offered him a Honorary Citizenship !
