For the second year in a row, Romania will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. The reasons were almost unclear until today, but today the President and General Manager of TVR, Dan Turturică, made official announcements, following a meeting with journalists.
The decision to abstain from Eurovision is based, according to Dan Turturică, on two main factors: the availability of the budget and the need for quality representation of the country in the institution.
However, he stressed that there is a deeper problem in the cooperation between public television (TVR) and the Romanian music industry.
It will make sense to return to Eurovision when the relationship between TVR and Romanian music producers has been redefined. This cooperation has never been truly mutually beneficial. TVR promotes many artists through the contest, but the benefits it reaps are not the same as those of other public televisions in Europe.

From the above it follows that Romania’s return to the contest remains uncertain and the possibility of a return will certainly only be considered if there is a substantial change in TVR’s relations with the domestic music industry. What do you think?
