Authorities have announced temporary traffic measures in central Athens on Saturday, October 25, due to the funeral of Dionysis Savvopoulos, one of Greece’s most celebrated songwriters and performers.
The farewell ceremony is being held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, followed by the burial at the First Cemetery of Athens, leading to road closures and parking bans in surrounding areas from 6:00 a.m. until the end of the funeral.
Streets Affected
Police have prohibited parking and imposed gradual traffic interruptions on the following streets:
- Mitropoleos Street (entire length)
- Aiolou Street, between Adrianou and Ermou
- Ermou Street, between Aiolou and Athinas
- Anapafseos Street, along its full length and adjacent side streets
- Trivonianou Street, between Karea and M. Mousourou
Police Advisory
The Hellenic Police (ELAS) have urged drivers to avoid these areas and follow the instructions of traffic officers to minimize congestion and ensure public safety during the ceremony.
