Rilo Kiley celebrates 27 years together at the LA Greek Theatre » // MELODIC Magazine

Long time fans who missed their chance to see Rilo Kiley in 2008 finally got to them this past weekend. Marking the end of their cheekily named Sometimes When You’re On You’re Really Fucking On Tour, the members reflected on their time together and gave their last show a couple of surprises. Unfortunately, that did not include the announcement of new music but longtime fans had the time of their lives.

The Los Angeles formed band originally announced their break up in 2014, but reunited in 2025 for their first North American tour in seventeen years. Even after their performance at Just Like Heaven 2025, there were plenty of songs from their discography they had saved for their full concert shows. Maintaining the same set production as their festival stages, the five member band took the LA Greek Theatre a trip down memory lane.

Frontwoman Jenny Lewis traded out her usual navy polka dot dress for a pink variation, and a copy of Dr. Wayne Dyer’s “How To Be A No-Limit Person” at her feet. Starting off with the nostalgic track, “The Execution of All Things,” the crowd was soothed with the gentle sounds of early 2000s indie rock. As if no time has passed, the group exuded the same youthful live energy as they did when they first performed this track in 2002.

Although they’ve all traded their comfy laidback clothing choices from the Y2K era for more elevated, casual outfits, they still express the same warm energy that Rilo Kiley is known for. This show marks the second performance at the Greek Theatre since they added an extra show on October 14th, they saved their best setlist for last. From “Spectacular Views” to the first chorus of “Glendora,” the indie pop band made this show a true homecoming.

After playing eight songs without pause, Lewis called out how grateful they were to play on that beautiful night. Lead guitarist Blake Sennet would later joke about the crowd’s screaming to provide comic relief after the lovelorn and heartfelt song, “Does He Love You?” As a testament to her vocal maturity, which has developed through years of keeping at the top of her game with solo projects, Lewis now stands stronger with an ability to belt for an entire night of singing in contrast to her earlier years.

“This is the last night of our tour. It’s a magical experience to reunite with these bros,” said Sennet. “It’s a perfect place to end the tour. It’s where we started the band.”

As Sennet took on main vocals for “Ripchord” and Lewis took to tambourine, the mood shifted to a livelier atmosphere before flipping the script back to the prose-filled song, “The Good That Won’t Come Out.” Of course, the lights and ambience can’t stay somber and purple forever; not once Lewis turned to the keyboard for “Silver Lining.” Its uplifting melody brought the crowd out of the metaphoric cloudy skies before the crowd pleasing track, “With Arms Outstretched,” featuring Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee. While the crowd started clapping on downbeats, Lewis led them to switch to the correct second and fourth beats.

“Our last Kiley show before our hiatus was here at the Greek in 2008. Pre-Instagram. Before our brains were turned to mush,” shared Lewis. The band’s banter and playfulness reminds fans that they still have the personality that made them so relatable. “Pre-Jeff. Do better Jeff. Wait, are we playing this next one? It’s kinda intense. Gotta get into character excuse me.”

Ending the main show on “Portion for Foxes,” a hard hitting song for Millennials, the five members walked behind the curtain for a quick break before walking back together in step.

“This feels like prom,” laughed Lewis. “This will be our last show for a while.” She reflected on how the group came together, mostly from different parts of Los Angeles. Together, Jenny, Blake, Pierre, Jason, Harry, and Nate crafted a perfect night of emotional highs.
