The high penetration of renewable energy sources has taken Greece out of the hard core of the most expensive electricity markets in Europe.
According to data Eurostat published on Wednesday, the average electricity price paid by Greek households in the first half of 2025 was lower than that paid on average by European Union households, and Greece, which was among the three most expensive markets in Europe for many years, has now moved down to seventh place.
The average price for Greek households in the first half was 0.2263 euros per kilowatt-hour compared to €0.2872/KWh in the EU. However, this difference was offset by inflation.
